Izzy Rutkey

Hi I’m Izzy! I took piano lessons with Amanda for 11 years, from 3rd-12th grade and again for a summer while I was in college. I was one of her very first students! Thanks to my piano skills, I was able to work at Carpe Diem Theater as the music director while I was in high school. I graduated from Hamilton College in 2022 with a degree in sociology and am now finishing up my Master’s in Secondary Education (Social Studies) at UAlbany. I also run my own home baking business, Izzy’s Sweet Treats, which I started in 2019. I bake all kinds of things, but my favorites are cupcakes and cheesecakes! You can find me on Instagram ( @_izzyssweettreats) and Facebook (Izzy’s Sweet Treats) :)

I played piano with Amanda and Musical Endeavors for at least ten years, elementary through high school. On the side I got into electronic music and production, which I went into college for. I graduated in May 2023 from Oberlin Conservatory with a degree in Technology in Music and Related Arts. I glanced over a wide field of disparate and different things during my time there: started out tinkering with electronics before getting into generative visual art and digital instrument/plugin design, done live electronics-laptop performance stuff. And most recently some composition, which I presented as part of my senior recital My finger, which'll be out soon enough, mid-summer's the goal. Currently I'm back home in Ballston Spa trying to figure out next steps and enjoy summer.

The piano skills and musical fundamentals Amanda helped instill in me have been of invaluable service these past few years. I am immensely thankful to her for the generosity of her expertise and support.
